Beyond Self-Care: Nine Years of Floating with Katie

Katie has been floating with Clear Float Spa since the day it opened, nine years and counting. As a sports chiropractor, life coach, and high-level athlete, she lives a fast-paced life she loves. The pod is what keeps her in it.

“With that,” she says of her schedule, “I definitely really take in my rest periods.”

A practice for a fast-moving life

Floating, in Katie’s words, is empowering and wholesome. It is the rare space where the noise of the outside world simply does not reach.

“It allows you to detach from everything happening around you and in the world,” she says, “to really hone in on yourself, your essence, your beauty.”

That kind of quiet does not pull her away from her life. It gives her the steadiness to be more present in it, in her work, her training, her relationships, and the people she loves.

More present with patients, less injured on the field

The benefits of floating turn up in the places Katie shows up.

With patients, she finds she can truly be with them when she’s with them, meeting them where they are without bringing the static of her own day into the room.

On the soccer pitch, the pod has become quiet insurance. “It allows me to really show up uninjured,” she says. “Knock on wood, I have not had many soccer injuries over the past few years since starting floating.”

For an athlete who trains hard, that is no coincidence. Recovery happens in the spaces between effort, and the float pod is one of the deepest spaces she has found.

Beyond self-care

Katie does not call floating self-care. She calls it something more honest.

“Floating goes beyond self-care for me,” she says. “It has been a space where I’ve actually truly honed into my essence and been able to break down barriers, work through traumas that have passed through me.”

For Katie, floating has become a practice. A place to reconnect within and meet herself again. After nearly a decade, the practice has only grown more meaningful for her.

For Katie, an hour in the pod sits at the centre of her week, not at the edge of it.

An invitation to try floating

If Katie’s story sounds familiar, we would be glad to welcome you. Floating asks very little, only that you show up. Whether you are recovering from training, looking for a quieter mind, or simply curious, the pod is a soft place to start.
